Very Brief Advice - ASK, ADVISE, ACT.

How to encourage other people to make informed choices about smoking.

Very brief advice (VBA) is a 30-second intervention delivered by health professionals to identify and support patients who smoke to make a quit attempt.

  • It is made up of three main parts:
  • Ask - and record smoking status
  • Advise - on the most effective way of quitting
  • Act - on patients' response.

Asking about smoking and being able to signpost a smoker to a local stop smoking service is recommended for all who are in contact with smokers through their work
