Living better- Peter’s story

11 Jun 2025

Peter joined the Smokefree Norfolk service for support after being concerned with what smoking could mean for his future health. He had previously quit before but due to stress, started again and now wanted to quit the habit for good.

Peter shared: “I felt really unwell whilst I was smoking and was getting worried about the possibility of losing my leg through a blocked artery. I had previously been able to quit for five weeks but stress in my life brought me back to smoking. I was apprehensive about getting support, but my health coach was understanding and positive and provided lots of helpful advice.”

We offer nine 30-minute sessions with a Stop Smoking Coach, delivered over 12 weeks to provide support at every step of the way. Participants can choose whether they would like their sessions in person, by video call or by telephone call.

“I opted for the one-to-one telephone support and my Health Coach helped me with ideas of how better to overcome my stress. I was useful speaking to someone else to understood where I was coming from and gave advice based on my personal circumstances. The support really was invaluable and without it, I would not have been able to quit.”

“I’m now 12 weeks smoke free and have noticed that my smell, taste and breathing are far better than they were. With the money I’ve been able to save, I’ve been able to treat myself to a new air fryer and a short break to Poland.”

“My plans for the future are to remain smokefree and live a better, more healthy life.”
